Welsh-medium education

Schools in this part of Gwynedd teach mainly through Welsh, and pupils leave fluent in both Welsh and English. At Ysgol Brynrefail most pupils study mainly through Welsh and almost all become fully bilingual.

Moving here with children who don’t speak Welsh? Gwynedd Council runs Welsh language centres to help newcomers catch up, so children can join local schools with confidence. Ask the council’s education team when you apply for a place.

School places and childcare

Apply for school places, and find out about free school meals, school transport and funded childcare, through Gwynedd Council or by calling 01766 771000. Family Information Service Gwynedd can help you find registered childminders and nurseries.
